The Senate has confirmed Omolola Oloworaran as the substantive Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), following President Bola Tinubu’s nomination.

The confirmation came after the Senate adopted the report of the Committee on Establishment and Public Service during Thursday’s plenary session. Presenting the report, the committee chairman, Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North), affirmed that Oloworaran met all legal and professional qualifications outlined in the Pension Reform Act 2014.

Senator Fasuyi stated, “The nominee has demonstrated competence and meets the legal prerequisites for this position. The committee finds her to be a fit and proper person for appointment as Director-General of PenCom.”

The report highlighted that Oloworaran satisfied the provisions under Sections 19(2), (5), (6), and 26 of the Act, making her eligible for the position. During the session, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin put the committee’s recommendation to a voice vote, which received unanimous approval from the senators.

Oloworaran’s confirmation ensures steady leadership at PenCom, a critical agency responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s pension administration and reforms. Her appointment is expected to bolster the commission’s efforts in improving pension governance and financial security for retirees.
