The Kebbi State Government has approved the release of ₦3 billion for the payment of retirees’ gratuity in the state.

This is coming after the organised labour in the state has threatened a total lockdown if retirement arrears are not paid.

On December 11, the state’s chairmen of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Umar Halidu Alhassan, and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Danladi Aliyu Dabai, issued an ultimatum that by January 1, 2021, the organised labour would shut down the state if the state government failed to pay the retired workers their entitlements.

The state’s Commissioner for Finance, Ibrahim Muhammad Augie, in a statement, yesterday, said the sum of ₦2 billion was approved for the payment of state government retirees and ₦1 billion for local governments and local government education authorities retirees.
