In the last two years, the Kwara State Government has spent close to N20 billion on pension and gratuity payments. Sa’adu Salahu, Gov. AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq’s Special Adviser on Strategy, revealed this on Sunday during an award ceremony organized by ‘Friends of AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq’ in Ilorin, the state capital.
Salahu told the audience that the state government had spent about N16 billion on pension payments and nearly N3 billion on gratuities to retirees at the state and local government levels.
He went on to say that this is in addition to the daily payment of full salaries to all categories of employees in state and local government bodies, which is a significant change from the past, when workers were paid in installments.
The payment of counter-fund to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has won the state N14 billion to repair facilities at the basic education level across the state, according to the Special Adviser.
He also revealed that the state government had hired 4,701 teachers, with new employees being recruited into the civil service and the Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS).
