Lagos, Osun settle Retirees N2.6bn accrued rights and pensions

The Lagos state government and its Osun counterpart have settled a combined sum of N2.6 billion to its retirees PensionTalk can confirm.

The sum of N1.5billion which represents the accrued rights of retired Lagos workers was paid in May 2022. Mrs. Ajibola Ponnle, the Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions, announced this at the 94th Retirement Bond Certificate presentation to Lagos State Public Service pensioners on Monday in Lagos.

Ponnle, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Onayele, declared that Lagos State reaffirmed its commitment to paying retiree benefits.
” From May 2019 to date, Gov. Babajide SanwoOlu has paid approximately N40.5 billion to 10,862 retirees in the state government’s Mainstream, Local Government, State Universal Basic Board (SUBEB), Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and other parastatals.”

In related news, the Osun state government also announced the release of N1.1 billion to pay Osun retired workers.

Dr. Festus Olowogboyega, the Head of Service, stated in an Osogbo statement on Monday that N600 million of the money will be used to settle retired primary school teachers and local government personnel while the remaining N500 million, according to Olowogboyega, will be used to fund civil servants enrolled under the contributory pension scheme.

He also disclosed that the list of recipients had also been put on the notice boards of the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, the State Pension Bureau, and the Office of the Head of Service, according to Olowogboyega while the retirement bonds will be released on June 2, 2022.
