Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), has stated that the agency will not allow any pensioner to suffer deprivation after giving their all in service to the nation.

She assured journalists in Umuahia during the ongoing mop-up verification of pensioners that every qualified pensioner under the defined benefit scheme would be captured in the database for seamless payment of pensions.

The PTAD boss, who was in Umuahia to monitor the mop-up verification for pensioners in Abia and Imo States, stated that 600 pensioners, including state pensioners with federal share, were expected to be verified and captured.

She explained that PTAD decided to conduct mop-up verification in all zones across the country after receiving complaints from pensioners who were not included in the 2019 verification for pensioners in agencies and parastatals.

Ejikeme, therefore, urged all unverified pensioners to take advantage of this weeklong mop-up verification in order to begin receiving their pensions, adding that PTAD would always ensure prompt payment of pensions to pensioners in its database.

She assured them that those who have not been receiving their pensions because they were not included in the 2019 verification would be paid in full if they were included in the current verification. Ejikeme hinted that physical verification may no longer be required in the future following the ongoing mop-up, as PTAD has completed plans to deploy technology that would allow pensioners to conduct self-verification using their handsets.

Mr. Friday Amakwe, 75, a retired NYSC officer, praised PTAD for the mop-up verification, which he described as “very smooth and well-publicized.”

Ruth Onyeanu, 73, said that she retired from Alvan Ikoku College of Education in Owerri in 2008 but was out of the country during the verification process in 2019. She thanked PTAD for giving her a second chance to be verified and recorded in the database as a state pensioner with a federal share.
