The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) and the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) are pleased to announce the publication of the first-ever report on Nigerian pension funds’ involvement with private equity. The research includes replies from Nigeria’s top pension fund managers, who were questioned about their interest in and perceptions of private equity as an asset class.

Nigerian pension funds have a significant desire for private equity investment both locally and across the continent, according to the Pension Funds and Private Equity in Nigeria Report. In the next five years, 75% of the pension fund managers polled plan to increase or maintain their present pace of capital commitments to African PE, citing a need for portfolio diversification and performance as the most important factors driving their investment plans.

Abi Mustapha- Maduakor, the AVCA’s CEO, commented on the publication “The growing interest in Africa’s private equity industry from both domestic and international investors highlights the need to examine institutional investors’ perceptions and concerns in order to foster an open dialogue about the continent’s unique business environment. This collaborative paper shows AVCA’s commitment to promoting private investment in Africa by bridging the knowledge gap between industry players by offering timely, relevant research on the prospects available to Nigerian pension funds “.
