In a significant move to alleviate the financial burdens of retired workers, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has given the green light to disburse ₦667 million to 475 pensioners spanning all 17 local government areas within the state.
This commendable decision was communicated through a statement issued by Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs under Buni’s office. According to the statement released on Friday, the approval comes in the wake of a meticulous screening and validation process conducted by a committee established by the state government.
Alhaji Mamman Mohammed stated, “The committee has meticulously reviewed the status of 475 beneficiaries and has consequently attached lists of the recipients, segmented based on local government areas, encompassing both living and deceased pensioners.”
The statement further assured that the Yobe State administration remains steadfast in its commitment to settling all outstanding pension payments due to retired employees.
Meanwhile, in a parallel development, pensioners in Jigawa state are celebrating as the state’s Pension Board takes the laudable step of disbursing N2.024 billion as terminal benefits to its deserving retirees.
Ismaila Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service/Office of the Secretary to the Government, confirmed this development in a statement. “The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the payment of ₦2.024 billion as a terminal benefit to 746 retired civil servants in the state.”
Elaborating on the distribution, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa Pension Scheme, announced during a press conference in Dutse, “This amount covers various aspects, including retirement benefits, death pensions, and related balances. It encompasses retirees from the State Civil Service, Local Government Councils’ service, and Local Education Authorities (LEAs).”
The payments reflect the state government’s dedication to honoring its commitment to retired civil servants and their families. The initiative covers retirees from various sectors and even those who passed away during their active service. Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa extended gratitude to Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his continuous support and collaboration in ensuring the welfare of retirees and active workers alike.
