The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has announced the commencement of the third tranche of the Security Debarment Allowance (SDA) to eligible military retirees and Next of Kins (NOKs) of deceased military personnel, effective from July 4, 2023.

Rear Admiral Sabiru Lawal, Chairman of the MPB, stated that the payment of this third tranche signifies the fulfillment of the Board’s commitment made after the payment of the first and second tranches. The Board pledged that subsequent tranches would be promptly disbursed once funds were made available by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning (FMoFBNP).

The third tranche of the SDA will be paid to the following categories of beneficiaries: military pensioners actively listed on the Board’s database as of November 9, 2017; NOKs of deceased military pensioners on the MPB database who were alive as of November 9, 2017; and non-pensionable but active military retirees who retired prior to November 9, 2017.

Lawal further explained that the payment of the SDA to the aforementioned pensioners and retirees is in line with the Presidential approval for extending the SDA to military pensioners and retirees who left the services before November 9, 2017, but were initially excluded from the implementation of the provisions outlined in the reviewed Manual of Financial Administration (MAFA) 2017 concerning the SDA.

The calculation of the SDA, Lawal clarified, is based on 10% of the retiree’s annual basic salary at the time of retirement, multiplied by the number of years served in the military.

The MPB urged all concerned military pensioners, retirees, and NOKs of deceased military pensioners to contact their banks to access their entitled payments.

Lawal expressed gratitude to military pensioners for their patience, understanding, and unwavering support towards the pensions board. He assured them and other well-meaning Nigerians that the Board remains dedicated to ensuring prompt payment of the remaining tranches of the SDA, subject to the release of funds by the FMoFBNP.
