Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved N422 million for the payment of 359 ex-workers pensions and gratuity.

The payment is claimed to be for batch 44, according to a statement made by the governor’s Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed.

It stated that the next-of-kin of 89 deceased former employees would be compensated in excess of N125 million, while 270 retirees would be compensated in excess of N296 million.

“After submission by the Office of the Auditor-General Local Government, the beneficiaries were rigorously checked to ensure that only legitimate recipients were paid.

“Governor Buni’s government has maintained a lead in payment of salary, pension and gratuities. The governor was recently honored by the National Union of Pensioners with an award for his dedication to the distribution of pensions and gratuities.

“These payments will no doubt contribute to the well-being of the beneficiaries and their families after retirement from service,” the statement stated.

Independent organizations such as ‘Budgit’ and the Centre for Transparency and Integrity Watch Nigeria praised the Buni administration’s fiscal discipline and transparency.
